NFL Week 9 Picks

*As if the matchup on the field wasn't enough, the behind the scenes trickery that has been going on before this Patriots/Colts matchup has been hysterical. In a move surely meant to bother Bill Belichick and his boys, Colts GM Bill Polian decided to place half of his 53 man roster somewhere on the injury list. Belichick's answer? Well it's actually two-fold. First, Bill had his boys practice on the newly installed turf at Gillette...in the rain! It was rumored that it was Polian, who has previously complained that the Pats always hold on defense (forcing the change in the pass interference rules a few years ago), that prompted the league to force the Pats to put down the new grass. So either Bill is playing with their heads and making them think he's mucking up the field, or he actually wants it that way. Advantage Pats. And then just for shits and giggles, Belichick, who in the past has been notorious for being vague on his injury reports, placed backup QB Matt Cassel on the injury list as probable. Hysterical. I have to say, while I'm not usually one that thinks pre-game psychological warfare like this has much to do with the outcome, you have to admit it's not good news for the Colts that their owner has given the Pats even more reason to want to snuff them out. And that's what I see happening this week. Whether it's getting in Manning's face, roughing up their receivers, or daring them to run the ball, Belichick and his Pats have always come up with a way of slowing down the Colts attack. This time, however, I think it's going to be more of the Pats offense being more effective against the Colts D. I freely admit that Indy has the superior offense, but the Patriots D will be able to slow Peyton and Co. down just enough to let Tom Brady, Laurence Maroney and Corey Dillon out-score them. Hell, I'm so confident that I'm even making it a pick of mine this week, and I only pick the Pats when I'd be shocked if they didn't cover. So you can put that one in the bank. The others? Well I won't lie, at this point I'm not even sure I know what I'm doing. I do know I have been taking a lot of favorites recently and it hasn't exactly been doing me well. So what did I do? Took 5 favorites including 2 on the road. Hey I say if I have been picking favorites and losing, then I'm due right?*
